4.4 How to Prepare for a Match Meeting with Intended Parents
Your First Meeting with Intended Parents: A Surrogate’s Guide
Meeting the intended parents for the first time is one of the most meaningful moments in the surrogacy journey. At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we know how important it is for both sides to feel a genuine connection. This isn’t just about starting a process—it’s about starting a relationship.
That’s why the match meeting is such a key step. It’s a chance for the surrogate and intended parents to talk face-to-face (usually over Zoom), get to know each other, and see whether their hopes, values, and expectations are aligned. Our team is there to help guide the conversation, make sure everyone feels supported, and create space for an honest, comfortable exchange.
Step 1: Getting Ready for Surrogacy Match Meeting
Before the call, take a moment to prepare. Make sure you’re in a quiet, well-lit space where you can focus without interruptions. Test your internet connection to avoid any hiccups. If you have a partner and they’re part of your surrogacy journey, we encourage them to join the call too. It shows support—and it gives intended parents a fuller picture of the circle that surrounds you.
Think about how you’d introduce yourself. What would you like them to know about your family, your life, your reasons for becoming a surrogate? It doesn’t need to be scripted—just honest and from the heart.
Step 2: What to Talk About on the Meeting
This first conversation will likely touch on a little bit of everything. You’ll hear about the intended parents’ story—what led them to surrogacy, what kind of relationship they hope to have with their surrogate, and how they’re feeling about the process ahead.
You can share your own hopes too—how often you’d like to communicate, what kind of support you’d like to receive, and how you feel about important topics like embryo transfer, medical decisions, or delivery planning. If you’re wondering about whether they want to be in the delivery room, or how they imagine the relationship after the baby is born, this is a good time to gently ask.
It’s not a test or an interview—it’s a conversation. You’re just two (or more) people exploring whether this is the right match for this very special journey.
Step 3: How to Know If It’s a Good Match
After the meeting, take a little time to reflect. Did you feel at ease during the conversation? Were you able to speak openly? Did it feel like you were on the same page emotionally and practically?
Not every match is perfect—and that’s okay. What matters is that you feel heard, respected, and ready. And if you do, the rest of the process tends to fall into place much more smoothly.
We’re Here to Support You
At GSHC, we’re committed to helping you match with a family that feels right to you. If you ever feel uncertain or need more information, just let us know. We’re here to listen, to guide, and to make sure you feel confident moving forward.
