Clinics set specific BMI requirements to reduce medical risks and support the best possible outcome for both the surrogate and the baby.

Why Is BMI Important to Surrogates?

If your BMI is too high or too low, it can increase the chances of complications. Higher BMI is linked to conditions like gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and preeclampsia. It may also reduce the likelihood of a successful embryo transfer and increase the need for a C-section. These risks are why clinics carefully review BMI during the surrogate screening process.

How to Calculate Your BMI for Surrogacy

To see if you meet surrogacy BMI requirements, use this formula:

BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height (m²)

BMI = [Weight (lbs) ÷ Height (in²)] × 703

If you're above the limit
