9.3 How Surrogates Get Paid — Milestones, Reimbursements, and Timing
Once your surrogacy journey begins, knowing exactly how and when you’ll be paid is essential. At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we believe compensation should never be unclear, delayed, or stressful. That’s why we’ve created a step-by-step process that makes payments timely, transparent, and tied directly to your contract milestones.
Here’s how it works—so you always know what to expect, when to expect it, and how we’re supporting you every step of the way.
Who Handles Surrogate Payments?
While your escrow account is managed by a licensed third-party escrow company, all payment coordination is handled by GSHC’s internal team. This includes:
- Your Case Manager, who tracks your journey milestones
- Our full-time Accounting Manager, who handles reimbursements and payment submissions
Together, we monitor your contract terms, milestone dates, and submitted receipts to ensure your payments are processed quickly and accurately.
How Surrogate Payments Are Structured
At GSHC Surrogacy, your compensation is paid in two primary ways, covering both your major milestones and the practical support you need throughout your journey.
1. Milestone Payments
These are larger, scheduled payments that are released at key points in your journey, all based on the terms of your signed contract. They typically include compensation for starting medications, completing the embryo transfer, confirming the pregnancy with a fetal heartbeat, and delivering the baby. Each of these payments is clearly outlined in your surrogacy agreement, so you’ll always know what to expect and when it will happen.
2. Monthly Reimbursements and Allowances
In addition to milestone payments, you’ll receive a range of structured support payments, including:
- Base compensation (paid in monthly installments)
- Monthly pregnancy allowance
- Maternity clothing allowance
- Reimbursements for approved out-of-pocket costs, including travel, mileage, childcare, co-pays, prescription medications, meals, hotel stays for appointments, and lost wages (for you and/or your support person)
To receive reimbursements, you’ll submit a monthly form with receipts, and our team will handle the processing and submit requests to the escrow company.
How & When You’ll Be Paid
We know how important it is to feel secure and informed when it comes to your compensation. That’s why we make sure you always know when payments are coming and how they’re handled. Here's what you can expect:
- Monthly allowance begins after your legal contract is signed.
- Milestone payments are triggered once that phase of your journey is confirmed.
- Most surrogates receive payment via direct deposit for speed and ease.
- Checks are available upon request.
Once your milestones or expenses are verified, GSHC submits the payment request directly to the escrow companyon your behalf. Payments are typically released within a few business days, depending on the escrow company’s processing time.
Our Role: Keeping It Smooth and Stress-Free
As your agency, GSHC works behind the scenes to make sure the entire payment process runs smoothly and on time. We track your contract milestones, review all submitted forms and receipts, and coordinate closely with the escrow company and clinics to ensure everything is processed correctly. If there’s ever a delay or question, we follow up right away to make sure your payments are released as scheduled—so you can focus on your journey without added stress.
