5.3.3 What If Polyps Are Found During Your Medical Screening?
At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we prioritize your health and well-being to ensure a safe and successful surrogacy journey. As part of the comprehensive medical screening, some surrogates may discover they have uterine polyps, which may require treatment before moving forward.
What Are Uterine Polyps?
Uterine polyps are small, noncancerous growths in the uterine lining. Many women have them without symptoms, but they can sometimes cause:
⚠ Irregular periods or spotting
⚠ Heavy menstrual bleeding
⚠ Interference with embryo implantation
While polyps are common and usually harmless, they can sometimes affect fertility, which is why clinics screen for them before approving a surrogate.
What Happens If Polyps Are Found?
If polyps are detected during your ultrasound or sonohysterogram, the fertility clinic may recommend:
✔ Polyp Removal – Many surrogates undergo a simple outpatient procedure called hysteroscopic polypectomy to remove the polyp. It’s minimally invasive, has a quick recovery, and improves the chances of a successful embryo transfer.
✔ Healing Period Before Approval – Some clinics require a waiting period after polyp removal before confirming medical clearance. This can range from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on your clinic’s guidelines.
Can I Still Be a Surrogate If I Have Polyps?
Absolutely! Finding polyps is not a disqualification for surrogacy—it simply means you may need to take an extra stepbefore moving forward. In most cases, small or minor polyps do not prevent a woman from becoming a surrogateonce they are treated.
At GSHC Surrogacy & Egg Donation, we are committed to guiding you through every step. Your case manager will work closely with you and the clinic to determine the best course of action, ensuring that you are medically cleared to move forward safely.
