I Don’t Have Surrogates!
I’ve been waiting for months — hoping, trying to stay patient, improving our process, and pushing myself and my team — because I want my intended parents to finally have a strong, steady number of surrogates ready for them each month.
But this year, the day before Thanksgiving, my intake manager Wendy sat down with me and said:
“I have 20 surrogates whose medical records are approved… but I still can’t make them available yet.”
In that moment, I felt frustration, confusion, and a real sense of disappointment.
Why? What else was missing? How much longer would my intended parents have to wait?
The truth is, this has been a slow year for GSHC — not because of problems, but because this year we took major steps to elevate and refine the way we work. I made decisions I knew would temporarily slow our pace, because I wanted our systems, our team, and our standards to grow to the next level.
A Year of Change
I refreshed and strengthened our entire surrogate intake team this year. Not because the previous team wasn’t good — they were dedicated and hardworking — but because our agency has grown so much that we needed intake specialists with deeper experience and sharper judgment.
Intake is one of the hardest roles in the entire agency. You’re not just reviewing medical records; you’re evaluating a woman’s past pregnancies, support system, mental health, lifestyle, motivation, honesty, and financial readiness. One small detail can impact an entire journey.
It is complicated.
It is emotional.
And it takes time — especially when you set the bar high.
This year felt slow at times, but it’s because we raised our standards, strengthened our process, and expanded what “thorough” means for us. And I believe this growth will serve our families for many years to come.
Because we are refining and strengthening intake, Wendy now reviews each case with even more care before making any surrogate available. It takes more time, but it protects our intended parents, our surrogates, and the integrity of the entire journey.
I trust Wendy’s judgment and her commitment to doing the right thing for everyone involved.
My hope is that all these careful steps will bring us to a place where we have strong, healthy, stable surrogate candidates who are not only qualified, but truly ready — women who will have a positive experience, a safe pregnancy, and a meaningful journey with our intended parents.
This is why we slow down.
This is why we take our time.
Because elevating our standards is how we build the future we want — for our families, our surrogates, and our team.
And I hope both our surrogates and intended parents can see how hard we are working, how much care goes into every decision, and how deeply we value their trust. My wish is that we continue walking this journey together — supporting one another, understanding one another, and helping strengthen this field for everyone who comes after us.
To all the intended parents who have been patient and understanding — especially those who have been waiting for a long time and still choose to stay with us — THANK YOU. Your trust means everything. We see you, we appreciate you, and we are doing our very best every single day for you.
